Erik Gordon Ward 4

Elect for Councillor · Ward 4 · Whitchurch-Stouffville

Erik Gordon

Your voice for our ward

Please let me introduce myself. I am Erik Gordon. I am a newly retired high school principal, after proudly serving in public education for the last twenty-six years.

I have lived in Ward 4 for fourteen years, and in Stouffville for twenty. Over the years, I have coached children at the Leisure Centre, taught Sunday school, and sat on the town’s Bylaw Appeals and Property Standards Committee.

I have very relevant community and professional experience, and a track record of success, positioning me well for the role of Ward 4 Councillor. I am ready to further serve our community.

My Story

A neighbour first,
a candidate second

I have lived for fourteen years on Elm Rd. We have raised two boys here, through the schools and on the fields. And I have spent twenty-six years learning that people can live with a decision they disagree with, but not with being ignored.

What students say

Mr. Gordon was not only an incredible principal, but an incredible person to have in the school community. There are so many amazing qualities to note such as his incredible problem-solving skills, his willingness to help others, his kindness towards everyone, and his ability to take control of situations. For me personally, he has helped me with a variety of different things no matter if it was school, football, or music, he was always there to help. The positive impact he has made on both me and the school will forever be remembered, and I know he will change many more lives in the future.

I was a student at Huron Heights for 2 years while Principal Gordon was there. He was a great principal. He was caring and kind and very approachable. He always made students, including me, feel like we were important. He knew our names and talked to us whenever he saw us in the hall. He asked how things were going and he actually listened to our answers. I wish he was still our principal but he’ll make a great councillor in Stouffville. He’ll be really good at responding to people and making sure that they feel taken care of. Thanks.

Having Mr. Gordon as my principal for the first two years of my high school experience was great. I am heavily involved in the music program at Huron Heights, and one thing that always stood out to me was how supportive Mr. Gordon was: he would attend every music event, chat with all of us in the halls, and ask us how our concerts and performances went. Huron is a great environment for everyone to be in, which I think is largely due to his work at the school. He helped create a space where students don’t dread going to school every day; and for people like myself it’s something that we look forward to. He supported many of the clubs and teams at HHSS, which I guarantee has contributed to how welcome so many students feel. He will be greatly missed at Huron this year, and I wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

As a graduate of Huron Heights, the biggest thing I always recollect about my high school experience is the variety and opportunity at the school. Mr. Gordon played a huge part in sustaining a sense of community. He was the biggest supporter of all students and always dedicated to making sure all voices were heard. From small interactions through the halls to large scale events, Mr. Gordon fosters a sense of unity everywhere he goes.
